President Droupadi Murmu emphasized India’s status as one of the fastest-growing major economies and its achievement as the fifth-largest global economy. In her address ahead of the 78th Independence Day, she highlighted India’s impressive average annual growth rate of 8% from 2021 to 2024, which has increased income levels and reduced poverty.
Murmu credited the nation’s success to the relentless efforts of farmers and workers, the strategic vision of policymakers and entrepreneurs, and effective leadership. She praised the agricultural sector for its contributions to self-reliance and food security.
Murmu expressed joy at the nation’s enthusiasm for celebrating Independence Day, noting the significance of seeing the tricolor displayed across the country. She encouraged citizens to celebrate national holidays with family, akin to how festivals are observed. The President also announced the start of celebrating Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary as Tribal Pride Day, with plans to honor his contributions during his 150th anniversary next year.
Further, she lauded India’s role as a leading voice for the Global South following its G20 presidency and reiterated its commitment to promoting world peace and combating climate change. Murmu urged individuals to make meaningful lifestyle changes to contribute to the global fight against global warming.
