A state of high alert has been declared in the Jammu region following the missing of Yasir Bhat, a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, from his home in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Bhat, who was out on bail, was reportedly involved in a grenade attack at the Jammu bus stand in March 2019, which resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to 28 others.
Police have circulated posters of Bhat across the region, urging the public to share any information regarding his whereabouts. Earlier, on July 27, Jammu and Kashmir Police had released sketches of three terrorists linked to recent terror incidents in the Doda district, including an ambush that claimed the lives of an army officer and three soldiers in the Urarbagi area of Dessa forest on July 16.
The police have offered a reward of ₹5 lakh for information leading to the capture of each of these terrorists, who are believed to be moving towards the upper regions of Doda and Dessa.
The recent surge in terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir has prompted the Centre to implement various measures to combat terrorism in the region, including identifying supporters of terrorists, cracking down on terror financing, and strengthening the counter-insurgency grid. Twenty-eight individuals have lost their lives in 11 terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir this year.
