Women’s Day is also a day to raise awareness of gender equality and the importance of women’s rights around the world, whether in their personal or professional lives. The theme for 2024’s International Women’s Day is “Inspire Inclusion.”
This subject emphasizes the necessity of creating an environment in which women feel empowered to fully participate, hence encouraging inclusivity and diversity. We can work together to make the world a more egalitarian and inclusive place by encouraging others to recognize and respect women’s achievements.
The Socialist Party of America staged the first “Women’s Day” on February 28, 1909, in New York City. This spurred German delegates at the 1910 International Socialist Women’s Conference to urge that “a special Women’s Day” be held annually, but without a specific date.
The following year saw the first rallies and commemorations of International Women’s Day throughout Europe. After the Russian Revolution in 1917, IWD became a national holiday on March 8, and the socialist movement and communist countries continued to observe it on that date.
