The people of Hyderabad were taken aback by the banners erected by the police at Hussainsagar, which stated that Vinayaka immersions are not allowed. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad police have installed these banners around Tankbund.
In compliance with a High Court order, permission for immersions in Hussainsagar has been denied. Barricades have been set up around the lake as a precautionary measure.
Hussain Sagar is a significant man-made lake situated in the heart of Hyderabad, India. Constructed in 1562 by Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah, the lake was built to provide drinking water and to irrigate the surrounding areas.
It is named after Hussain Shah Wali, a Sufi saint, who is believed to have played a role in its construction. Covering an area of approximately 5.7 square kilometers, Hussain Sagar is one of the largest lakes in Hyderabad.
It connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and serves as a major landmark. The lake is famous for its central monument, the Buddha statue, which stands on an island in the middle of the lake.
