After facing severe flight delays, Vinod Kannan, CEO of Vistara, assured airline employees on Thursday that the worst is behind us and that operations have already stabilized.
Due to pilot problems, the Tata Group airline has had to temporarily reduce capacity by 10%, or 25–30 flights per day. Kannan stated that it has been a learning experience, even if he acknowledged that things should have been prepared more carefully.
He also said that the new financial year has been difficult, and the airline experienced major operational disruption from March 31 to April 2. Our clients’ fear and annoyance were equal to the hurt we all felt when we saw our beloved brand receiving unfavorable attention from a variety of sources, he added.
The CEO further asserted that as of April 9, 2024, their on-time performance (OTP) increased to 89%, which is the second-highest among all Indian airlines. Kannan claims that a number of factors, such as ATC delays, bird strikes, and maintenance operations that occurred early last month, were responsible for the disruptions.
The full-service carrier has around 6,500 people, including about 1,000 pilots. We will carefully analyze this experience as a learning opportunity that we could and should have prepared better, the Vistara CEO stated.
“I have faith in each of you to keep working hard so that we don’t disappoint our customers or our brand,” Kannan remarked.
