A 45-year-old Egyptian man, Magdy Eissa, recently achieved a Guinness World Record for visiting the new Seven Wonders of the World in the fastest time of 6 days, 11 hours, and 52 minutes using only public transport.
He surpassed the previous record set by Englishman Jamie McDonald. Eissa described planning his route as a monumental task that took about one and a half years.
He had to navigate a complex network of flights, trains, buses, subways, and walking between transportation hubs and the Wonders. Any disruption could have jeopardized his entire itinerary, potentially forcing him to return home.
Starting his journey at the Great Wall of China, Magdy Eissa proceeded to visit the Taj Mahal in India, the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, Rome’s Colosseum, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Machu Picchu in Peru, and finally the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza in Mexico.
Each segment of his trip required meticulous research into transit times, selecting the best public transportation options, and accounting for factors like immigration queues, layovers, and connections to the next destination, according to GWR.
While Magdy managed to avoid major disruptions to his schedule, he faced some close calls. On one occasion, he missed the daily bus to Petra, and another time he nearly missed his flight from Peru to Mexico, risking his timely completion of visiting all seven Wonders.
