Kusale secured the country’s only medal of the day, achieving a bronze in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event with a final score of 451.4. This victory marked him as the first Indian to win an Olympic medal in this discipline.

With this win, India’s tally of medals in the Olympics has all been in shooting, following previous successes by Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh. Other shooters, including Sift Kaur Samra and Anjum Moudgil, did not progress past the qualification round of the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event. In race walking, Indian athletes Vikash Singh, Paramjeet Singh, and Priyanka Goswami fell short of the podium.
In badminton, Lakshya Sen advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating compatriot HS Prannoy, but PV Sindhu and the doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty were knocked out. The hockey team lost 1-2 to Belgium, while Nikhat Zareen failed to meet expectations, losing to Wu Yu in the pre-quarters of the Women’s Flyweight 50kg event. Additionally, Pravin Jadhav was defeated 6-0 by Kao Wenchao in the men’s individual round of 64, finishing 39th. In sailing, Vishnu Saravanan and Nethra Kumanan are currently placed 25th and 6th, respectively, in the Dinghy ILCA 7 category.
