Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who also owns social media platform X, expressed support for a California bill that mandates safety testing for certain AI models. On Monday, Musk emphasized the need for AI regulation, likening it to the regulation of other technologies that pose potential risks. He urged California to pass the SB 1047 bill.
California lawmakers proposed 65 AI-related bills this legislative session, including those addressing algorithmic bias and protecting the intellectual property of deceased individuals.
Many of these bills have already failed. Microsoft-backed OpenAI recently supported another California bill, AB 3211, which mandates labeling of AI-generated content, from harmless memes to deepfakes intended to spread misinformation.
With countries representing a third of the world’s population holding elections this year, experts are concerned about the impact of AI-generated content. This issue has already been notable in some elections, such as in Indonesia.
