According to a senior official, four Naxalites with a combined bounty of ₹ 36 lakh were slain in a gunfight with police on Tuesday in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. Superintendent of Police Neelotpal stated that on Monday afternoon, the police were notified that a few Naxalites had crossed the Pranhita river to enter Gadchiroli from neighboring Telangana. Their intention was to engage in subversive activities in response to the model code of conduct that will be in effect for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A search was conducted in the area by several C-60 teams, the Central Reserve Police Force’s Quick Action squad, and a specialized fighting unit of the Gadchiroli police.
The official stated that Naxalites fired at the security troops indiscriminately as one of the C-60 unit teams was searching in the Kolamarka mountains close to Repanpalli this morning. The security personnel then reacted. He added that when the gunfire ceased, the location was examined, and four Naxalites’ bodies were discovered. He also mentioned that they had a ₹36 lakh monetary prize waiting for them. Other materials recovered were Naxal literature, two country-made handguns, a carbine, an AK-47, and other weapons. The police said that the dead Naxalites were Vargeesh and Magtu, both secretaries of separate Naxal committees, and Kursang Raju and Kudimetta Venkatesh, members of a platoon.
