The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) decided that a day must be dedicated to creating massive awareness about the conservation and significance of fresh water in our daily lives.
‘World Water Day’ is celebrated every year on March 22. It is known that the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a resolution in December 1992 by which March 22 was declared World Water Day.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) also decided that a day must be dedicated to creating massive awareness about the conservation and significance of fresh water in our daily lives. Hence, World Water Day has been observed since March 22, 1993. Interestingly, the main theme of this year’s World Water Day is ‘Water for prosperity and peace’.
In fact, water is extremely crucial for our lives, and most of the water that human beings use for day-to-day activities comes from groundwater. However, water is a natural resource that is irreplaceable in our daily lives, from drinking to cooking to bathing.
On the occasion of ‘World Water Day, people have to realize the importance of freshwater, especially this year amid the ongoing severe water crisis in Bengaluru city. Meanwhile, the electricity city is currently facing an acute water shortage due to failed monsoons, low rainfall, and drying groundwater resources.
