To get support for his plans to complete the Metro Rail corridor and extend it to the airport in Shamshabad, as well as to turn the Musi riverfront into a hub for employment and revenue generation, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reached out to the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). Revanth Reddy was speaking at a high-level review meeting with a group of all newly elected MIM legislators, led by the party’s floor leader and senior leader, Akbaruddin Owaisi. Ministers D. Sridhar Babu and D. Rajanarasimha were present, along with deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Revanth Reddy’s nomination of an IPS officer to the Chief Minister’s Office was, incidentally, a first. Shahnawaz Qasim, an inspector general-level official from the 2003 batch, was selected by the Chief Minister to be his secretary. The welfare of minorities is reportedly going to be one of his duties. Furthermore, Qasim’s nomination by the Chief Minister proved his neutrality toward officials from Bihar, some of whom he had disparaged during the last election campaign. In light of the Congress’s defeat as the minority party in the country’s capital and surrounding areas, Revanth Reddy’s swift actions—appointing Akbaruddin Owaisi as pro-tem Speaker, compelling the BJP to forgo the swearing-in of its lawmakers—and setting up a high-level meeting focused on Old City development gained significance.
Insiders claim that he is utilizing this action as a component of his plan to reach out to the MIM in order to win over the minority vote in the city. In a formal press release, Revanth Reddy stressed the importance of pursuing self-sustaining tourism projects that attract tourists from around the world as well as domestic travelers. He said that public-private partnerships should be leveraged to build hawker zones, shopping centers, footpaths, and amusement parks along the Musi riverbank. In order to enable the start of river cruises and the introduction of water sports, he further stated that immediate action should be made to treat sewage and enhance inflows into the river with the use of check dams.
