Telangana Cops Drag Protesting Student By Hair: Viral
A video has gone viral on social media showing two Telangana policewomen dragging a protesting student on the road by her hair. This shocking incident was caught on camera, and students alleged that cops misbehaved with them while staging the protest.
A disturbing video has surfaced on social media, capturing two Telangana policewomen dragging a protesting student on the road by her hair. The incident, which occurred on January 24, 2024, during a protest at PJTSAU (Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University), has sparked public outrage, with students alleging mistreatment by the police.
In the viral video, two policewomen on a scooty are seen chasing a female protestor, with one of them riding pillion forcefully pulling the student by her hair. The impact causes the student to fall, leading to visible distress and cries of pain. The protesting student was affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
The incident prompted strong criticism from the opposition, including BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who expressed serious concerns about police brutality. In a statement on her social media handle, Kavitha condemned the aggressive tactics employed by the police on a peaceful student protester. She demanded an apology from the Telangana police and urged the involvement of the National Human Rights Commission in the matter.
In response, the Rajendra Nagar police issued a clarification, stating that the action by the two lady constables was unintentional. The police claimed that they were attempting to grab the woman protestor’s hand, and catching her hair was not intentional. However, the incident has raised questions about the need for such forceful measures during a peaceful protest.
