Telangana: BRS Candidate Naveen Kumar Reddy Emerges Victorious In Mahabubnagar MLC Bypoll

In a significant turn of events, the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) candidate, Naveen Kumar Reddy, secured victory in the Mahabubnagar Local Authorities’ constituency bypoll in Telangana. Naveen Kumar Reddy garnered 762 votes, surpassing the Congress nominee, M Jeevan Reddy, who received 653 votes. The total valid votes polled in the by-election amounted to 1,416, marking a crucial win for the BRS after a previous defeat in the Legislative Assembly polls.

The victory in the bypoll is viewed as a morale booster for the BRS, particularly following their setback in the previous Legislative Assembly elections. The outcome also serves as a setback for the ruling Congress party, given that Mahabubnagar is the native district of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The polling for the by-election took place on March 28, with the counting of votes postponed to June 2 due to the model code of conduct enforced for the Lok Sabha polls.

The bypoll was necessitated by the resignation of Kasireddy Narayana Reddy, who transitioned to the Congress party and secured victory in the Kalwakurthy Assembly seat during the 2023 state elections. The victory of Naveen Kumar Reddy in the Chief Minister’s home district has been hailed as a moment of pride by the BRS Working President, K T Rama Rao, who expressed confidence that this win signifies the beginning of many more successes for the party in the future.

While the BRS candidate emerged victorious in the bypoll, the state Excise Minister, Jupally Krishna Rao, acknowledged the moral victory achieved by the Congress. Rao expressed optimism about the Congress securing a majority of Lok Sabha seats out of the total 17 in Telangana, highlighting the political landscape following this significant electoral event.
