The Telangana Commissioner of Food Safety’s task force teams have been conducting inspections at various food establishments in Hyderabad to ensure compliance with food safety regulations. On July 26, 2024, the officials visited multiple locations in the Begum Bazaar area and uncovered significant hygiene and safety violations.
At Shyam Singh Chat Bhandar, the inspectors found a live rat infestation, houseflies in the kitchen, open dustbins, and food articles without proper covers and labelling. The establishment failed to maintain pest control records, and the doors were not properly fitted to prevent pest entry.
Furthermore, the task force discovered the use of synthetic food colors in the preparation of masala water for pani puri. The officials promptly discarded the affected food items and colors. The food handlers were not wearing the required hairnets, gloves, and aprons, and their medical fitness certificates were unavailable.
The inspectors also noted that the Food Business Operator (FBO) had obtained an FSSAI Registration certificate instead of a State License, despite exceeding the prescribed sales limit.
In coordination with the district authorities, the Food Safety Team has taken necessary actions to address these violations and ensure food safety standards are met in the Begum Bazaar area.
