The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to offer the Rajya Sabha seat to Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi. Massive speculation is rising on social media after the Central government, led by the BJP, recently granted Padma Vibhushan for the actor’s crucial contribution to Telugu cinema for the last four decades.
According to political circles, Megastar Chiranjeevi is likely to get a Rajya Sabha ticket from Uttar Pradesh soon. It is known that Chiranjeevi was a former Rajya Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh between 2012 and 2018. Chiranjeevi also served as a Union minister of culture and tourism in the Manmohan Singh cabinet between 2012 and 2014.
Earlier, the Election Commission of India (ECI) declared the poll schedule for 56 Rajya Sabha seats. The ECI declared polls for 56 Rajya Sabha seats in 15 states, and the polls will be conducted on February 27, 2024.
It is known that the Rajya Sabha is a permanent house in the Indian Parliament system, and it does not dissolve like the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha members serve a six-year term, and one-third of the members retire every two years to ensure continuity.
