The popular search engine platform Google has fired 1,000 employees in a fresh round of layoffs. In this regard, the tech giant has cut jobs in many streams, including Google’s hardware and central engineering teams, as well as Google Assistant. The company explained that the decision was difficult and regretted informing them about the layoffs through an email sent to laid-off employees.
The popular tech giant has also stressed that severance pay will be given to eligible employees. Meanwhile, Microsoft and OpenAI’s strong AI offerings are undoubtedly putting pressure on Google’s core search business, prompting internal adjustments. However, the tech giant also carried out smaller rounds of layoffs throughout the year as part of its reorganization strategy. It is worth noting that Google’s parent company, Alphabet, had 182,381 workers as of September 30th, 2023.
