Scientists have identified novel DNA structures, called G-quadruplexes (GQs), in the Monkeypox virus (MPV) genome, offering a breakthrough in diagnostics. Researchers developed a fluorescent probe, BBJL, which selectively detects MPV-specific GQs, improving diagnostic accuracy. This advancement promises potential antiviral therapies by targeting unique nucleic acid conformations, to combat the virus.
