In the first week of July this year, top private telecom companies Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea increased their prices by 10–27%. As a result, Airtel lost 1.6 million users, Vodafone Idea lost 1.4 million, and Jio saw a decline of 750,000 subscribers.
Meanwhile, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reported that BSNL gained 2.9 million new subscribers during the same period. BSNL is a state-owned telecommunications company in India, established in 2000.
As one of the largest telecom service providers, BSNL offers a wide range of services, including landline and mobile telephony, broadband, and enterprise solutions.
With its extensive network, BSNL aims to bridge the digital divide in rural and urban areas, often providing services in regions where private operators may not reach.
BSNL has been pivotal in enhancing connectivity across India, especially in remote locations. It operates both 2G and 3G networks, with plans to roll out 4G services to enhance customer experience.
Despite facing stiff competition from private players like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, BSNL has maintained a loyal customer base, particularly among users seeking affordable plans and reliable service.
The company has also taken initiatives to modernize its infrastructure and improve service quality. Recently, BSNL has experienced a surge in subscribers, reflecting growing confidence in its services.
