BSNL, once overshadowed by private telecom giants, is staging a notable comeback in the Indian telecom industry. Amid rising plan prices from competitors such as Jio, Airtel, and Vi (Vodafone Idea), BSNL is capitalizing on the opportunity to draw users with its cost-effective offerings. This strategic shift has rekindled interest in the state-owned provider, leading to a significant increase in its customer base.
The resurgence of BSNL has been marked by a remarkable turnaround in its fortunes. Years of declining customer numbers are now giving way to growth, as recent price hikes by private operators have driven many to explore BSNL’s more affordable plans. In Andhra Pradesh alone, over 2.17 lakh users switched to BSNL in July 2024, boosting the total customer count in the state to over 40 lakhs.
BSNL’s expansion is not limited to pricing; the company is also advancing its technological infrastructure. The provider is focused on offering high-speed internet through its expanding 4G and upcoming 5G networks. With 4G installations now covering 15,000 sites across India, and a planned launch in Andhra Pradesh on August 15, BSNL is poised to enhance its service offerings.
One of BSNL’s latest moves involves a substantial reduction in the price of its popular 3300GB data plan. Previously priced at Rs 499, the plan is now available for Rs 399, reflecting a Rs 100 discount. This broadband plan, which provides users with an extensive 3300GB of data, is now more competitively priced compared to rivals, making it an attractive option for heavy internet users.
This price cut aligns with BSNL’s broader strategy to attract and retain customers by offering high-speed, affordable internet options. By making this significant data plan more accessible, BSNL aims to secure a stronger foothold in the competitive telecom market.
