OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Sora services experienced a major outage on December 26, 2024, affecting users for nearly five hours. The issue began around 1:30pm ET and was traced to an upstream provider. Microsoft also reported a power issue impacting services. Both platforms were restored by 6:15pm ET, and OpenAI is conducting a root-cause analysis.
