Gene-Edited Pig Kidney Sustains Monkey For 6 Months

In China, a monkey survived for over six months with a gene-edited pig kidney, marking a breakthrough in cross-species organ transplantation. Researchers at Huazhong University transplanted the kidney into a macaque monkey in May. While the kidney functioned normally for 5 months, the monkey’s immune system eventually began rejecting it, highlighting challenges in long-term organ survival.
