CM MK Stalin Flags Off Jallikattu Event In Tamil Nadu’s Madurai
Jallikattu is typically practiced in many regions of Tamil Nadu as a part of Pongal celebrations on Mattu Pongal Day, which occurs annually in January.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin today flagged off the popular Jallikattu event at the Kalaignar Centenary Jallikattu Arena in the Keelakarai area of Madurai district in the state. In fact, the Jallikattu arena is a traditional sport of Tamils, and it has been built by the ruling DMK party in Madurai. However, the stadium is named after former Tamil Nadu CM and late DMK leader M. Karunanidhi.
Earlier, Madurai district collector Sangeetha conducted a sudden inspection of the newly constructed Kalaigar Centenary Jallikattu arena. The collector said that the officials have made all arrangements for the conduct of Jallikattu, and there has been barricading put in to ensure that bulls play in the play arena. The collector also stressed that 500 bulls and 300 bull tamers will be joining, and 2,000 police personnel will be deployed for security.
Jallikattu is typically practiced in many regions of Tamil Nadu as a part of Pongal celebrations on Mattu Pongal Day, which occurs annually in January. In this sport, a bull will be released into a crowd of people. The participants will try to grab the large hump on the bull’s back in an attempt to bring the bull to a stop.
