India’s D. Gukesh made history on Thursday by becoming the youngest-ever World Chess Champion, defeating Ding Liren of China in a 14-game match in Singapore. The 18-year-old from Chennai capitalized on a blunder by Ding in the winner-takes-all 14th game, winning 7.5-6.5. Gukesh is only the second Indian to win the title and the youngest in chess history, surpassing Garry Kasparov’s record.
