‘World Pulses Day’ is celebrated every year on February 10, and it is celebrated every year to create awareness about the significance of pulses. However, this day focuses on achieving the universal goals for sustainable development outlined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the policy of 2016 as the International Year of Pulses. In fact, the first International Year of Pulses celebrations were conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
Interestingly, the United Nations General Assembly has declared February 10 as World Pulses Day. Pulses are the staple food in most countries, have high nutritional value, and are consumed as a part of the daily diet.
However, the best way to celebrate World Pulses Day is by raising awareness about the consumption of pulses and exploring a variety of dishes that can be made with pulses.
It is known that pulses consist of dry peas, beans, lentils, lupins, and chickpeas. These pulses are also high sources of protein, vitamins, and minerals. In a piece of good news, these pulses have high antioxidant effects on the body and help in reducing the risk of diabetes.
