Uttarakhand Assembly’s Special Session Will Begin On Feb 5

The special session of the Uttarakhand Assembly will be conducted on February 5 in Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand. Earlier today, the Uttarakhand Assembly Secretariat issued an official statement and said that the assembly secretariat had summoned the Fifth Vidhan Sabha of Uttarakhand to meet for the second session.

Earlier in September 2023, the 3-day monsoon session of the fifth assembly of Uttarakhand was postponed indefinitely. It is known that the second session of the year of the fifth Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, which commenced on September 5, 2023, adjourned sine-die after its sitting on September 8, 2023.

According to government sources, Uttarakhand is likely to become the first state to pass the Uniform Civil Code in India. Ahead of the special Assembly session, the ex-Supreme Court judge-led committee is likely to hand over the report on UCC either on February 2 or February 3, 2024.

In fact, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) was one of the significant promises made by the BJP during the Uttarakhand Assembly polls in 2022. Meanwhile, the formation of the UCC committee was declared after the inaugural Cabinet meeting of the BJP government in Uttarakhand.
