Tamil Nadu Governor Claims Secularism Is A European Concept, Not Indian

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi stated that secularism is a European idea, developed to resolve conflicts between church and state, and was not part of India’s original Constitution. He argued that India, being a dharma-centric nation, rejected the concept during its drafting. Ravi alleged that secularism was later added during the Emergency (1975-77) by a “insecure Prime Minister” to appease certain groups.
