Superstar Vijay Thalapathy launched a political party, ‘Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK), in Tamil Nadu on Friday. This development came days after the leaders of the Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) appointed him the party chief.
Vijay is anticipated to enter the political arena ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections in 2026. He also said that politics was not yet another vocation but a holy public service. “Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam” approximately translates as “Tamil Nadu Victory Party.”
Vijay, who has appeared in 68 films, is known as Tamil cinema’s next Rajinikanth. He has been developing political ambitions for more than ten years. He has engaged his fan clubs in a variety of charitable and humanitarian initiatives, including free food distribution, educational scholarships, libraries, nighttime tuition, and even legal assistance.
Recently, Vijay organized a constituency-level program to recognize high-performing students in public examinations. He told students that he wanted to learn about leaders such as Ambedkar, Periyar, and Kamaraj. Take what is good and leave the rest, said Vijay.
Vijay further noted that his party will not contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, nor will it support anyone, as decided in its recently held General Council and Executive Council meetings.
Vijay’s father is the renowned film director Chandrasekhar. Vijay’s films have frequently addressed difficult and important public interest issues, and he enjoys a cult following in the state. Some of Vijay’s films have also taken contentious positions against governments throughout the years.
