In a notable incident, senior leaders from Maharashtra’s ruling coalition, comprising the Shiv Sena and the BJP, engaged in a heated exchange on Monday, with threats of violence and the potential dissolution of their alliance, known as MahaYuti. The conflict arose when Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam criticized BJP’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Ravindra Chavan for the deteriorating condition of the Mumbai-Goa Highway (NH-66), which has been in disrepair for nearly 15 years. Kadam’s comments came as the highway is expected to see heavy traffic due to the upcoming Ganeshotsav festival, starting September 7.
Kadam expressed frustration over Chavan’s previous assurances regarding the highway’s renovation, stating that the current state of the road, filled with potholes, would significantly inconvenience devotees traveling home for the festival. He urged Chavan to take immediate action to improve the highway or resign if he was unable to do so, further escalating tensions within the alliance.
