The Mahajatara festival commenced in Medaram, Mulugu district of Telangana, with the traditional ‘Gudi Melugu’ celebrations today. Priests performed sacred rituals, bathing in the Jampanna stream and purifying the Sammakka-Saralamma temples. The shrines were adorned with red clay, yellow saffron, and fresh grass on the rooftops.
