Ex-Rajasthan Judge Letter To President Murmu & PM Modi
Eliza Gupta, a former Rajasthani judicial magistrate, caused controversy when she wrote to the President Droupadi Murmu, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Supreme Court, and the Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. In the letter dated December 15, judges and top attorneys in Rajasthan were accused of grave harassment.
Former Rajasthani judicial magistrate Eliza Gupta stirred up controversy when she wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, the Supreme Court, and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. The letter, dated December 15, accused Rajasthan’s top lawyers and judges of serious harassment. But other lawyers denied similar charges, saying Gupta was narcissistic. They claimed that after a verbal disagreement, she filed a sedition complaint against an advocate, which is when the dispute began.
In the letter, Gupta stated that she was discouraged by the letter she received from a woman judge in Uttar Pradesh who had experienced the same kind of harassment from my department. This letter motivated me to write my own in order to ensure that the offenders face harsh consequences. I was a victim of circumstances that led to my dismissal from the military because of disparaging remarks that made it impossible for me to live a life of dignity wherever in the world. It is humbly stated that on September 16, 2023, counsel Peer Mohammad and Arjun Ram Kala verbally and physically attacked me, using profanity, while I was working on the dais and carrying out my court duties. After that, I was assigned to ACJJM-1, Nagaur. According to Gupta’s complaint letter, they pounded hands on the dais and screamed abuses.
Thereafter, claims of contempt were made. “I was then told to file a complaint and the local police were notified.” The police did not even file a formal complaint (FIR), but I wrote a handwritten report when they did not act,” the woman stated. “I was sent to Jodhpur the next working day due to the influence of lawyers from Nagaur, namely Peer Mohammad and Arjun Ram Kala. While on leave, I was harassed in the senior judge’s chamber on September 18, 2023, near midnight, when I was called back,” Gupta claimed in her letter.
In addition, the former judge demanded justice, stating, “I had to leave my job/service because I started contempt proceedings against two unruly advocates and raised my voice against them.” My own department opposed me, siding with the accused advocates and obstructing the formal complaint from being filed.” I used to get threats and harassment from a few seniors all the time. I promptly requested police protection and lodged a formal complaint with the District Judge and Registrar General of the Rajasthan High Court. But she said that nothing was done about the complaints or notifications that I made.
