Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons illegal. The Aam Aadmi Party sources stressed today that CM Kejriwal will not attend the Enforcement Directorate for probing in connection with the Delhi liquor scam case. Earlier, the ED issued a third summons to CM Kejriwal on December 22, 2023, asking him to appear before the ED agency on January 3, 2024, in connection with the excise policy case.
Meanwhile, CM Kejriwal also questioned the timing of the notice as a move to stop him from electioneering ahead of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls in April and May 2024. However, CM Kejriwal was not named as an accused in the first information report (FIR) filed by the CBI on August 17, 2023. In February 2023, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI for irregularities in the implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi’s new excise policy.
However, CM Kejriwal was first called by the central agency to appear on November 2, 2023, but he did not depose, alleging that the notice was vague, motivated, and unsustainable in law. He also alleged that the said ED summons appeared to be politically motivated and issued for extraneous considerations. The AAP has also questioned the timing of the notice just before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
