Why India Has Never Bought American Fighter Jets

India has consistently declined offers to buy US fighter jets, going back to Cold War choices when the US armed Pakistan, a major rival, with American fighters. New Delhi prefers to avoid dependency on US parts, or export controls for its combat aircraft. Instead, India buys transports and helicopters from the US but chooses fighters from France, Russia or builds its own.
