West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee announced that the state’s job guarantee scheme Karmashree will be renamed after Mahatma Gandhi. She said removing Gandhi’s name from NREGA was shameful. The move comes as opposition parties protest a new bill to replace MGNREGA, saying it disrespects the Father of the Nation and weakens rural job rights.
