Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak will become the new Prime Minister of Yemen. The Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen declared on Monday that the current Yemen’s foreign minister, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, is its new prime minister. However, Mubarak has served as Yemen’s foreign minister since 2020.
It is known that Mubarak became very popular for the first time in 2015 when he was kidnapped by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis. Mubarak was kidnapped while he was Yemen’s presidential chief of staff during a power struggle with then-President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. Mubarak has also served as Yemen’s key representative to the United Nations in 2018.
According to government sources, the outgoing Prime Minister of Yemen, Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed, will take on the crucial role of main advisor to the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council. Interestingly, Mubarak has replaced Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed amid the sudden escalation of massive tensions in the Red Sea.
Geographically, the Republic of Yemen is a country in West Asia, and it is situated at the southern end of the Arabian Peninsula. Meanwhile, Yemen is currently experiencing huge tensions as a result of a wave of Red Sea attacks on ships by Houthi rebels, which trigger retaliatory strikes by the United States and the United Kingdom.
