SC Halts New Suits Under Places Of Worship Act, Seeks Centre’s Response

The Supreme Court directed the Centre to file an affidavit on the Places of Worship (Special Provision) Act, 1991, which prohibits lawsuits to change the character of places of worship as they were on August 15, 1947. Until the Centre’s response, no new suits can be filed. The Court also emphasized the importance of resolving ongoing petitions on the matter.
