Venezuelan National Granted Bail After 5 Years In Jail For Cocaine Possession

A special court in Mumbai granted bail to Venezuelan national Balza Baptista Karen Darlenny, arrested in 2019 for carrying 796 grams of cocaine. The decision followed concerns about the slow pace of her trial, with only two witnesses examined in five years. Although granted bail, Darlenny must remain in India until the trial concludes and report to the DRI twice weekly.
