The Tirumala Temple in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, was observed on Friday night, along with a bear and a leopard. Andhra Pradesh forest officials also managed to get footage of the untamed creatures, a bear and a leopard, on CCTV. A second occurrence, meantime, involved the sighting of a leopard wandering close to the Tiumala temple recently.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials have advised devotees to walk and move in big groups when trekking or strolling on the Alipiri-Tirumala stepsway in the wake of the event. A leopard was spotted and recorded on camera earlier, on December 13, 2023. A leopard and a bear were also seen in the vicinity of the Repeator, which is a section of the path that connects the Tirumala hill with the Sri Lakshmi Narayanaswamy temple in Alipiri, between October 24 and October 27.
To protect themselves from the leopard, the TTd officials had earlier advised the devotees to bring sticks. In Tirupati, the forest department has reported seeing six leopards in the area around the shrine thus far in 2023. Because these are wild animals on the holy pilgrimage route, the TTD has asked followers to be extra cautious and traverse the trail in groups to ensure their safety.
