Supreme Court Slams Centre Over Stubble Burning

The Supreme Court criticized the Union govt for rendering environmental laws ineffective, highlighting that the CAQM Act’s penalties for stubble burning remain unenforced. Justice Abhay Oka said that the Environmental Protection Act has become toothless. The court also condemned the Punjab and Haryana govts for failing to prosecute offenders, pointing out that many violators face no effects.
