According to a district administration order, a curfew has been implemented in Ambad taluka of Maharashtra’s Jalna district to avert any peace and order issues due to activist Manoj Jarange’s ongoing campaign for Maratha reservation. According to the order, Jalna collector Srikrushna Panchal stated that Jarange had declared on Sunday that he would travel to Mumbai to protest the Maratha community’s demand for reservations. It’s possible that quota supporters would show up to block the activist from traveling to Mumbai at Antarwali Sarati hamlet in Ambad taluka of Jalna, where he has been conducting a hunger strike.
The directive stated that traffic on the Dhule-Mumbai route and in the tehsils near Ambad may be impacted due to the large number of people. Law-and-order problems and an influence on peace could result from this. Therefore, the district collector in Ambad taluka has enforced a curfew under CrPC Section 144(2) starting at midnight on Monday and lasting until further orders, the statement stated. According to the collector, this order does not apply to government buildings, schools, hospitals, media, milk distribution, or travel on national highways. On Sunday evening, Jarange departed from Antarwali Sarati and arrived at the neighboring village of Bhamberi. The protesting activist did, however, return to Antarwali Sarati on Monday morning and began receiving medical attention.
