Karnataka To Impose Cess On Zomato, Uber, And Swiggy Payments To Aid Gig Workers

The Karnataka govt plans to impose a cess on transactions through aggregator platforms like Zomato, Uber, and Swiggy to support gig workers’ social security. Labour Minister Santosh Lad stated the funds will be used for a welfare fund focusing on health insurance and children’s education. A draft bill aimed at safeguarding gig workers’ rights will be presented in the Assembly in December.
