The Indian government has requested that Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 assault, be extradited to India from Pakistan. The Ministry of External Affairs stated on Friday that the Indian government desires Hafiz Saeed to go on trial in a specific case.
The MEA is upset with Pakistan for permitting extreme groups to run in elections there, including the son of Hafiz Saeed. Pakistan has been engaging in the mainstreaming of radical groups as part of state strategy, according to MEA spokeswoman Arindam Bagchi.
He went on to say that because the issue has major security ramifications for regional security, India is still keeping an eye on it. Notably, Saeed is the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a terror group that is prohibited by the UN.
He was the architect of Mumbai’s horrific 26/11 assaults. In India, he is also wanted in a number of crimes. According to Bagchi, India has sent Pakistan Saeed’s plea for extradition along with the necessary supporting documentation.
“Hafiz Saeed, the individual in question, is wanted in multiple Indian cases. And he is a terrorist designated by the UN. We sent a request to extradite him to India so he might stand trial for a specific offense.
In this context, we also provided the Pakistani government with the pertinent supporting documentation. We have been bringing attention to the activities for which he has been wanted. This desire is new,” he continued.
