Malathion is considered an essential weapon in locust management because of its effectiveness in arid environments and low water requirements. In addition to addressing the immediate problem in Afghanistan, the assistance works to stop locusts from spreading to nearby Central Asian nations.
The Afghanistan Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock said that the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, & Livestock of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is grateful to the Government of the Republic of India and its people for supplying 40,000 liters of chemical material (malathion) in the agriculture sector to prevent the locust menace.
The aid is effective on crops in the area and not only helps keep locusts out of Afghanistan but also keeps them out of Central Asian nations, including Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. The 40,000 liters of malathion insecticide were delivered in two trucks and formally turned over to the Taliban-run Afghan government’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock.
