Read on for the ultimate guide to salon-quality pedicures, which includes all the advice for getting baby-soft feet and a ton of product recommendations (think: the cutest fall nail polishes, gentle nail polish removers, and so much more). If you’re ready to take the risk and DIY your own pedicure at home, get started now. Before doing this pedicure process, you need to keep all these products with you, and that includes: nail polish remover, foot file or pumice stone, nail file and clippers, foot cream and cuticle oil, and nail polish (including a base coat and top coat).
1. Get your nails ready for a pedicure at home: It’s time to finally remove the polish residue from your previous manicure and give your feet a decent cleaning. Before beginning to swipe, let the paint dry on each nail for a few seconds by soaking a cotton pad in nail polish remover (I prefer mild, acetone-free versions). This will remove any remaining color. Don’t skimp on this step if you want that flawlessly polished, lacquered finish at the end.
2. Dip your feet and toes: if you have a pedicure basin (a large bowl), but using your bathtub is also a sensible choice. Pour warm water into it and generously add a scoop of bath salts that are known to soothe skin (or use a cup of sea salt). Before proceeding to the following procedure, let your feet soak for a few minutes.
3. Cut the nails on your toes: It’s time to trim your toenails after your feet are ultra-smooth. To cut and trim your nails, grab a pair of traditional nail clippers. The following phase will address perfecting the edges, so don’t worry about them now.
4. Shape your toenails: It’s time to smooth your toenails now that they are the ideal length. Shape the edges and corners with a nail file. This is a step where you should take your time and file your nails until they are all the same length.
5. Apply moisturizer to your feet and massage them: Apply a body lotion or foot cream and start massaging your calves, feet, and toes until you feel like stopping. After all that scrubbing and soaking, your feet will not only feel fantastic but also get more moisturized thanks to this massage. To ensure that your lacquer sticks, use a cotton pad soaked in rubbing alcohol to clean the surface of each nail. This will remove any greasy residue.
6. Apply nail polish to your toenails: Take your toe separators, if you own any. To keep the polish from smudging, take off a piece of paper towel, roll or twist it into a rope, and weave it around your toes. Your chosen color should be applied in two thin coats, with a few minutes of drying time in between. Use an orange stick to wipe up any mistakes you make if you’re not very good at painting inside the lines.
