Forty-seven tigers, three lions, and a panther have died in zoos in southern Vietnam due to the H5N1 bird flu virus, according to state media. The deaths occurred in August and September at My Quynh safari park and Vuon Xoai zoo. Testing confirmed the cause as the H5N1 virus, but no staff members showed respiratory symptoms. Vietnam has 385 captive tigers as of 2023.
