Famous radio broadcaster Ameen Sayani passed away late on Tuesday night at the age of 91 due to heart attack. His son, Rajil Sayani, said that his father was taken to the HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai but was not able to be saved.
The funeral of Ameen Sayani will be done on Thursday, February 22, as the family members are waiting for some relatives to reach Mumbai. Ameen Sayani, who was born in Mumbai on December 21, 1932, became well-known throughout the years because of his compelling manner and melodic voice.
After India gained independence, he started out as an English-language broadcaster and switched to Hindi. The Radio Ceylon intro ‘Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon’ by Ameen Sayani still creates a strong sense of nostalgia.
Ameen was well-known for his show ‘Binaca Geetmala,’ which aired for more than 42 years starting in 1952, primarily on Radio Ceylon and thereafter Vividh Bharati (AIR). Since 1951, Ameen Sayani has composed and produced more than 54,000 radio shows and 19,000 commercials and jingles.
Sayani has also acted in several movies throughout the years, such as Qatl, Teen Devian, Bhoot Bungla, and Boxer. He made appearances in all of these films, sometimes announcing events.
