Cricket West Indies (CWI) has awarded pacer Shamar Joseph an ‘international retainer contract’ after his heroic performance in the Gabba Test against Australia, which resulted in the West Indies’ first win on Australian territory in almost two decades.
The pacer was promoted from his present franchise contract to an international retainer contract. Shamar, who took seven wickets in the second innings to help the West Indies win by eight runs, had earlier signed a franchise contract.
Last Sunday, Joseph stunned cricket fans by taking 7 for 68 and led the West Indies to a historic Test victory over Australia at the Gabba.
He bowled Steven Smith with the first delivery of the game. Miles Bascombe, West Indies Director of Cricket, noted that the new contract highlighted the young pacer’s potential and bright future.
