India Mandates AVAS For Electric Vehicles By 2027

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed making Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems (AVAS) mandatory for all electric cars, buses, and trucks in India. AVAS is a safety feature that will produce a sound to alert pedestrians to the vehicle’s presence. New models must comply by Oct 1, 2026, while existing models have until Oct 1, 2027.
