The civil aviation regulatory body, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has fined airline Air India ₹1.1 crores for a safety violation today. Following a safety report submitted by an airline employee, which claimed infractions on specific “long-range terrain critical routes” run by Air India, the civil aviation regulator opened a thorough inquiry.
The investigation revealed the airline’s noncompliance, which prompted the Accountable Manager of Air India Limited to receive a Show Cause Notice. In response to this, the DGCA has taken enforcement action, imposing a penalty of ₹1.10 crore on M/s Air India.
According to the DGCA, the airline’s response was examined in comparison to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) performance limits and legislative regulations, revealing disparities in the leasing company’s operations.
Recently, DGCA imposed fines worth ₹30 lakh each on Air India and SpiceJet after finding lapses in pilot rostering related to operating flights in low visibility conditions.
