Deadly Disease Returns To UP After 20 Years

A rare case of Kala Azar has emerged in Lucknow’s Triveni Nagar area, affecting a 17-year-old boy with no travel history to endemic regions. The patient had fever and fatigue for over a month. WHO and PATH are assisting the state health department in managing the case. Kala Azar, caused by Leishmania parasites, remains sporadic in Uttar Pradesh despite its official elimination in 2019.
