The Union Finance Minister tabled the interim budget as the Lok Sabha polls are due to be held this year. This will be her sixth budget as Finance Minister and the last in the second term of the Modi government.
Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said, “It is an important day.” Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh also stated that the budget will be progressive and for the development of the country.
Keeping with tradition, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her colleagues, Ministers of State Bhagwat Karad and Pankaj Chaudhary, met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan before presenting the Budget in Parliament on Thursday morning.
The interim budget will meet the budgetary needs of the intervening period until a government is formed following the Lok Sabha elections. The new government will unveil its full budget. Earlier, the Budget Session of Parliament began on Wednesday, with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a combined session of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
